The Rule of One
What do I own and what owns me? This fiscal year we are giving you an opportunity to review your faith along three aspects of one theme- The Rule of One. It’s a way for you to take concrete steps to improve your faith. We start with a self assessment so that you can evaluate your priorities and values regarding your time, talent, and treasures shared. Where are you in your faith journey? Where would you like to be in one year?
By promoting this simple theme - The Rule of One - we ask that you commit to time in the form of one hour of prayer (outside of Mass) per week, to talent in the form of one hour of service within a ministry per week, and to treasure in the form of our first hour of wages per week to the Church.

timeOne hour of prayer - There are many ways to pray: meditation, the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, reading the Bible are some examples. How about starting your day by taking ten minutes to read daily Scriptures? We publish them every week in our bulletin, or read them online at: www.usccb.org/nab/ today.html. Other options that we offer are Daily Mass, Adoration in front of the Eucharist every week day morning, 24 hour adoration starting Friday morning until Saturday morning, Peace Rosary Group on Sunday afternoons, or one of our many Bible studies.
talentOne hour of service - Commit to the Knights of Columbus, S.H.I.P., become a choir member for one of the Sunday Masses, be a reader or Eucharistic Minister during Mass, or help out at any one of of the Ministries listed in the Holy Spirit Ministries and Organizations Directory.

TreasureFirst hour of wages - Wait, arenʼt we taught a biblical tithe of 10% is what is required? Yes, this is true. However, did you know in America that the average Catholic only tithes 1% of their income? It is not practical for us to expect everyone to jump to 10% in one step. So letʼs start with a simple measure, your first hour of wages. If you already
give more than this, but less than 10%, try a modest increase. We recommend 70% of your tithing to go to Holy Spirit Church and 30% to other causes like His Hands during their food basket drive at Thanksgiving and foods baskets, clothing and presents at Christmas for the needy, Life Centers of Orange County, Birth Choice, Thomas House, Catholic Relief Services, or Concern America. The choice is up to you. |
